Sigma Spa Express Brush Cleaning Mat |
Sigma dry 'n shape |
So if you're like me, it's a bit of a chore to clean your makeup brushes. I know I should clean them weekly, but if I'm going to be completely honest with you, its usually every two (ish) weeks. A while back, I saw that Sigma had come out with a brush cleaning mat that suctions to your sink. I figured I'd wait and maybe try it later on, because cleaning them with my hand and baby soap seemed to do just fine. During Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale this year, they had a set that came with the mat and a foundation brush. I didn't own any of their brushes, so I thought I'd give it a shot. The brush is good, but the mat is fantastic!
The mat has suction cups on the back that stick to your sink, and they actually stay put! That was the part I was the most skeptical about. I still use baby shampoo to clean my brushes and it works great. It smells amazing, it works, and it's cheap, so I'm happy. I had a Beauty Blender Cleanser sample that I did try on those, but I honestly didn't think it was any better than my baby shampoo. Half of the mat is designed for eye brushes and the other for the face, and then it breaks down in to sections for cleaning, refining, and rinsing. All of the sections are labeled on the mat itself, which makes it very simple to use. I placed a dollop of shampoo on the mat and the pairing of that with the mat, did a very thorough job cleaning my brushes. I used the refining sections for a deeper clean and then ran the water and used the rinse sections.
After each brush was clean, I would gently squeeze out the excess water with my fingers, and then repeated this step with a dry wash cloth to remove additional water. I was given the Sigma 'dry 'n shape' holder years ago by a friend, and it's always worked well to re-shape my brushes while they dry. Sometimes I'll set them on a towel as well, if they don't all fit.
The nice thing about the 'dry 'n shape' is that you can stand it up so that the bristles face down and this will keep water from breaking down the glue in the handles.
Overall, the mat doesn't add any time to the cleaning process, there is very minimal cleanup (rinse the mat and let it air dry) and it's very effective. I actually plan on picking some up for gifts! This is something that you wouldn't always think to buy for yourself, but it really makes this chore that much better! Hope this helps! :)
